Where Would You Rather Be?

Snapfish & Travelocity are holding a photo contest called "Where Would You Rather Be?"

Although I probably won't win, because of some Photoshop genius, it was still fun to pick a favorite photo to enter.

I chose this picture, along with this description:
Being a California girl, I never get the chance to experience real winter weather. While most people escape to warmer climates during the winter months, I yearn for a winter wonderland. This February, I experienced the first snowfall in my life, which yielded more than eight inches of snow in one weekend! Definitely a first I'll never forget. I look forward to many more! The beauty is that I experienced this gorgeous scenery a mere 90 miles from my hometown. Now I know where to find my winter wonderland!

Sense of Entitlement

Attention owners of luxury cars. You know who you are. Just because you drive a nice BMW, Mercedes, Escalade, Range Rover, etc., DOES NOT give you a sense of entitlement to the road. Do you think because your car is twice as expensive as mine that you shouldn't have to follow the rules?

This happens to me often (at least a couple of times a week), but this time it happened twice this morning on the way to work. First, some jackass in a Mercedes comes speeding up behind me and when he realized he had no place to go, he sped past me and then immediately got back over into my lane with no signal, barely making it in between my car and the car I was following. Then, locks up the brakes, causing a jam of my car and those behind me. Oh, I'm sorry. Did you miss your exit to Starbucks, f'er? There are 10 others up the street that you could pull into.

The second instance occurred when a Mom in a Range Rover, on a cell phone, with a baby in the backseat, decides that she missed her entrance to the freeway and proceeds to cross 4 lanes of steady traffic with no signal or regard for anyone else. YOU HAVE A CHILD IN THE BACKSEAT, IDIOT! Think because you own a nice car that you're magically protected by a bubble that inflates around your whole car in the event of a collision? WRONG!

I'm not saying this doesn't happen to me by people driving non-luxury cars, too. It just happens to be that 95% of the time, it's some chotch monkey or some rich bitch who is catered to in all other aspects of their life that feels they should have no regard for those "lesser" than them on the road.

Use your signal...I'll let you over. Otherwise, you should know that bumper cars is my favorite ride at the fair and I'm not afraid to play on the 405 freeway.

Eisch Breathable Stemware

Everyone knows how much I love my wine. Also, everyone knows how I hate to wait for a wine to open up when decanting. I think my prayers have been answered. My impatience finally has a cure - Eisch Breathable Stemware. These heaven-sent pieces of finely formed glass open up wine in approximately two to four minutes, which would take a traditional decanter one to two hours. But, not without costing a pretty penny. Each glass costs $30-$35.

There are a lot of new gadgets out there, which speed up the traditional decanting process, but they don't get as good of reviews as these Eisch glasses do. When I win the lottery, I'll have to give them a try. Maybe Riedel will come up with a more cost-effective alternative and give Eisch a run for their money! If so, I'll be first in line!

Scentportable

I have my select favorites that I purchase over-and-over at Bath and Body Works, but I now have one more item to add to my list - Scentportables.

By far, these little babies are the best car fragrances I've ever had (they kick the crap out of cardboard pine trees). They can also be used in laundry rooms, hampers, closets, lockers, etc., because they clip on or rest on practically any surface.

The scent selections are very pleasing and not overwhelming. I purchased mine in late January and I can still smell the Vanilla Coconut scent. B&B Works also sells Cinnamon & Clove Buds, Cinnamon Stick, Coconut Lime Verbena, Fresh Linen, Pineapple Mango, Pineapple Orchid, Sea Island Cotton, Shore Breeze, Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, Sweet Pea and Island Nectar. In-store supplies are limited, but the website has plenty in-stock.

Even better, the kit only costs $5, and two refills are also only $5. Try one today, you won't be disappointed!

Where Has Common Courtesy Gone?

Listen up, people! If you ask me to pick a date and time to meet with you and I give you two weeks worth of dates to select from, make it happen. Enough BS already. This has gone on way too long (since September). I'm over you. You're not worth my time.

My bitchfest for the day...not directed at anyone who reads my blog. Something completely unrelated, but I had to vent.

An Apple A Day

Last night, Lee and I spent the night playing dominoes and a new game, Apples to Apples, with my Aunt and Uncle. Now, I can play dominoes until the sun comes up, but it was exciting to play a new game. Apples to Apples is ridiculously simple, but a bushel of fun! It's interesting to see how the "judge" picks the winner each round, as it can definitely be interpreted differently by each person. I made a run by winning 5 rounds straight, but then lost in the end on a head-to-head card match with my Aunt.

REMATCH!!!

25% Off at Bistro West in Tustin

Bistro West just recently opened a restaurant in Tustin at the District, and they're offering 25% off a purchase of $30 or more. Not bad. I've been to their Carlsbad location and it was amazing. Their food is delicious and very reasonably priced. They also have an extensive wine list. I highly recommend it!

BRRR....

Lee and I spent the weekend in Big Bear Lake to celebrate our friend's 30th birthday. After a trip to Walmart to purchase chains for the Tahoe, and then spending $40 and 3 beers to have a dude along the road install them, we finally made it to the snow covered town.

The weather was epic! We enjoyed fresh show flurries, relaxing in the hot tub overlooking the lake, warming ourselves in front of two fireplaces, good food, lots of partying and great fun with our friends!

Here's some pics of the weekend.

Bitter Sweet Deliciousness

Last weekend, Lee brought home a bunch of fresh lemons from one of his clients. My first thought was ironic - what do you want me to do? Make lemonade? "When life hands you lemons...blah, blah, blah." Instead, I pulled out my Williams-Sonoma dessert cookbook (hardly been touched) and found a recipe for Lemon Curd Squares. They were really easy and taste delicious. The most time consuming parts were squeezing the lemons and waiting for the crust to cool before pouring in the curd mixture.

Ingredients:
For the crust:
* 1 cup all-purpose flour
* 1/3 cup granulated sugar
* 1/2 tsp. salt
* 1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
* 8 Tbs. (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into
1/2-inch pieces

For the filling:
* 3/4 cup granulated sugar
* 2 Tbs. all-purpose flour
* Pinch of salt
* 1 tsp. finely grated lemon zest (optional)
* 3 eggs, at room temperature
* 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
* 3 Tbs. heavy cream
* Confectioners’ sugar for dusting (optional)

Directions:

To make the crust, preheat an oven to 350°F. Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking dish, preferably glass.

In a food processor, combine the flour, granulated sugar, salt and cinnamon. Pulse briefly until blended. Add the butter and pulse until the dough forms moist crumbs and sticks together when pinched, about 1 minute. There should be no trace of dryness. Press the dough into the bottom and 1 inch up the sides of the prepared baking dish, lightly flouring your fingertips if necessary to prevent them from sticking. Bake the crust until pale golden, 20 to 22 minutes. Transfer the pan to a wire rack and let the crust cool completely. Reduce the oven temperature to 325°F.

To make the filling, in a bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, flour, salt and lemon zest. Add the eggs, lemon juice and cream and whisk until just blended. Carefully pour the mixture over the baked crust.

Bake until the filling is set but still jiggles slightly when the dish is gently shaken, about 20 minutes, or longer if using a metal pan. Transfer the pan to the wire rack and let cool for about 30 minutes. Run the tip of a small knife along the inside of the dish to loosen the crust from the sides, then let cool completely.

Cut into 12 small rectangles. Using a spatula, carefully remove the bars from the dish. Just before serving, sift a dusting of confectioners sugar over the bars.

Makes 12 bar cookies.

Worst Week

It's been a few days since my last post, simply because I haven't thought of anything brilliant to share. Guess my mind has been focused on more pressing things (like paying bills)! Anyhow, one thing I wanted to share is my newly-found love of the CBS TV Show, Worst Week. Personally, I think you have to think like a guy to appreciate the humor, but who knows? Maybe girly girls will like it, too. The comedy is very witty and the characters are hilarious. Now, I didn't happen onto this show on my own. My aunt and uncle watch this show regularly and turned me onto it when I spent the evening at their house one night. Lee and I laughed our you-know-what off.

If you're looking for a little laughter on Monday nights at 9:30, turn into Worst Week on CBS.
